Metana is found in a volcanic peninsula (the meta volcano), together with that of the Peloponnese. Administratively, it belongs to the Attica region. The city (with a population of 892 inhabitants in 2011) is located north of the road that connects with the rest of the Peloponnese and Galatas. The highest point is 740 m (Helona mountain). The Municipal Unit has an area of 50,161 square kilometers and a censored population of 2057 inhabitants in 2001. Its main settlements, in addition to the city of Metana are Vathy (population: 129), Megalojori (115), Kououpitsa (75), Kypseli ( 47), Agioi Theodoroi (45), and Dritsaíika (205).
